The third-largest country in the world, China is bounded to the north by the deserts of Mongolia, to the west by the Tibetan plateau and the Himalayas, and to the east by the East and South China Seas. China's 22 provinces and 5 autonomous regions are governed from Beijing, along with some 5000 islands. China isn't just a country – it's a different world.
From shop-till-you-drop metropolises to the epic grasslands of Inner Mongolia – with deserts, sacred peaks, astounding caves and imperious ruins – it's a land of cultural and geographical wonders. It is not that China has done away with its Maoist past – it is more that the yin of revolutionary zeal is being balanced with the yang of economic pragmatism. The old guard communists are giving way to the new wave entrepreneurs.
Guilin
It is also a land of towering mountains and epic landscapes – background scenery to the fall of dynasties, the rise of emperors and the turning of the revolutionary wheel. Unless you have a couple of years and unlimited patience, it is best to follow an itinerary such as Beijing to Tibet via Xian's Terra Cotta Warriors or following the Silk Route or sailing down the Yangtze River or simply let Goway plan your trip.
Be impressed by the high standard of hotels, by the friendliness of the people and how safe it is to travel around.
On these pages, we present our most popular ideas. We can also arrange the best airfares within China plus special airfares from North America direct to China.
We can personalize all of the independent travel ideas we offer in China by providing a private car with driver as well as a personal guide.

World's Largest Country (China): Little History Of China

Flag of China

History

The earliest recorded human settlements in what is today called China were discovered in the Huang He basin and date from about 5000 B.C. During the Shang dynasty (1500–1000 B.C. ), the precursor of modern China's ideographic writing system developed, allowing the emerging feudal states of the era to achieve an advanced stage of civilization, rivaling in sophistication any society found at the time in Europe, the Middle East, or the Americas. It was following this initial flourishing of civilization, in a period known as the Chou dynasty (1122–249 B.C. ), that Lao-tse, Confucius, Mo Ti, and Mencius laid the foundation of Chinese philosophical thought.
The feudal states, often at war with one another, were first united under Emperor Ch'in Shih Huang Ti, during whose reign (246–210 B.C. ) work was begun on the Great Wall of China, a monumental bulwark against invasion from the West. Although the Great Wall symbolized China's desire to protect itself from the outside world, under the Han dynasty (206 B.C.–A.D. 220), the civilization conducted extensive commercial trading with the West.
In the T'ang dynasty (618–907)—often called the golden age of Chinese history—painting, sculpture, and poetry flourished, and woodblock printing, which enabled the mass production of books, made its earliest known appearance. The Mings, last of the native rulers (1368–1644), overthrew the Mongol, or Yuan, dynasty (1271–1368) established by Kublai Khan. The Mings in turn were overthrown in 1644 by invaders from the north, the Manchus.

TOKYO POPULATION

With a population of over 12 million, or about 10 percent of Japan's population, Tokyo is by far the country's most populous and most densely populated prefecture. The centre of Tokyo is located at 35°41' North, 139°46' East (35.68333, 139.7667).

Tokyo Population (October 1, 2003)

- Population 12,369,000 (8,340,000 in 23 wards) (1st)
- Tokyo Population Density 5655 /km²
- Tokyo Area 2,187.08 km² (45th)

Tokyo Population By age (As of Jan. 1, 2003):

Juveniles (0-14): 1.433 million (12%)
Working population (15-64): 8.507 million (71.4%)
Aged population (65+): 2.057 million (16.6%)

Tokyo Population By time (As of 2000)

Night-time: 12.017 million
Daytime: 14.667 million

Tokyo Population By Nationality

Foreign residents: 353,826 (as of Jan. 1, 2005)
Top 5 Nationalities of Foreign Residents: Chinese (120,331), Korean (103,191), Philippine (31,505), American (18, 043), British (7,585)

Technically Tokyo only has a population of 8.34 million people, but the greater area of Tokyo (continuous urban areas) includes a total of 12.369 million. The issue of determining Tokyo's population is further complicated by Yokohama. There is now continuous urban land use between Tokyo and Yokohama, such that Yokohama could really be considered a "suburb of Tokyo".
The satellite image below gives you some idea of the size of Tokyo's population, but this image does not include all of the urban areas of greater Tokyo. For further information see Tokyo Japan Map.

The World Cup fever is reaching a nice crescendo and we will soon have 14 teams trying to outdo each other for the being called the World Champions. As a matter for fact the World Cup was first held in 1975, while the first time the current trophy was presented to the winning team was in 1999, a good 24 years later!

The Prudential Cup

Indian Best Squad For World Cup 2011 : Indian Lions

The ICC 2011 World Cup starts on 19th February 2011. The selectors led by K. Srikanth has selected the 15 member team. The team seems to be not really surprising except that it is packed with 3 spinners along with 3 part-time spinners. Rohit Sharma, Robin Utthappa and Pragyan Ojha seem to be the notable people not in the World Cup squad.

King Of Records Sachin Tendulkar

King Of Records Sachin Tendulkar : Little Master

In Greek mythology a Titan is someone who is a giant. Giant not by size but by deeds who would their rule their domain with absolute power. The two titans Atlas and Hercules are legends of the mythical world. Hercules for beating the odds all alone with just his strength and wit along with Atlas who literally carries the world on his shoulders. Truly if the game of cricket was mythology then Sachin Tendulkar is a Titan.
Sachin Tendulkar’s shoulder carry no less of a burden and he has often single handedly taken on odds we cannot imagine or identify with. But today in his 442nd One Dayer, with his 17,598th run and a good 100 runs after he had scored his 46th century, the little master that Tendulkar is, scored the first double century ever scored in international limited overs cricket.
He now owns the world record for most runs scored ever, most centuries ever and also the highest individual score ever. In both formats of the game Tendulkar his at the top and by miles. No player has dominated both forms in such absolute terms. At 36, Tendulkar is still breaking barriers and showing living up to the adage that ‘Class indeed is permanent’.
At the time of writing this post Indian bowlers have responded well and joined the Tendulkar party by reducing South Africa to 151/7. Most people who love cricket be they Indian or not will agree that if someone deserved to break the 200 barrier in ODI’s it was Sachin Tendulkar. If you want to watch the moment he scored a double hundred.
Tendulkar is towards the end of his career and when he retires his myth will live on. I say myth because his achievements are truly unreal and mythical. He is no celebrity but a hero. A mythical hero whose very name is enough to inspire future cricketers to awesomeness.

    World's Largest Mosque

At the foothills of the Margalla Hills in Pakistan's capital of Islamabad, the Shah Faisal Mosque World's Largest Mosque is one of the core places of Muslim worship in Southern Asia. It was erected from foundations to prayer in just 5 years in 1976. A dominant and empowering Mosque was fast becoming a necessity to establish the new state of Pakistan after the Partition from India in 1948, and the massive $50 million cost of the grand mosque was generously donanted by King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, after whom the mosque is named as well as the Faisal Avenue highway leading to it.
    Architectural feats
The massive contructions represents an 8 faced desert 'tent' surrounded by 4 huge towering minarets. It is thought to be the largest mosque in the world, able to house 100,000 praying muslim at the same time, although not all in the same venue! 10,000 fit in the main hall, 24,000 in the verandahs and 40,000 in the main court yard with another 30,000 in outbuildings. Designed by Turkish architect Vadat Dolokay, it was the result of an architecture competition. The Mosque has much in common with the designs of major sites of worship in Istanbul.
The mosque is like a whole mini-village with its own library, museum, lecture hall, cafƩ, and University of 700 students. However, it is not only the impressive size and exterior for which the mosque is famed - it also supports as an equally elegantly designed interior. The Qibla Wall inside the Main Prayer Hall has many decorated glazed tiles from Turkey and a giant golden crescent in the roof. Underneath the wall are reflection pools which allows for air conditioning by adjusting the water level of the pool. There is a giant chadelier in the main prayer hall which weighs some 7.5 tons and uses 1000 electric bulbs.

There is a Women's gallery which is rare for a mosque; women in Pakistan rarely enter mosques but instead pray at home. Zebra marble and white marble from Greece are used here. The courtyard is paved in Italian granite making it quite an international affair.

MIDVALE, UT, USA -- Ryan Moody, 25, has made a successful 56 inch standing box jump at a local gym in Midvale Utah, known as CrossFit 801 - setting the new world record for the World's Highest Standing Box Jump.

Ryan Moody says: "3 huge tire tractors were rolled out and stacked up to create the landing platform. Don't let the photos fool you, at a platform height of 56", this is no easy feat. Especially considering I chime in at a solid 5 foot 9 inches, this attempt equates to 81% of my height."

         The world record was

" The morning of left me full of nerves, and a sleepless night created some concern as to whether I would have the energy to jump land at this height."

"The gym was full of fellow crossfitters, gym owners, friends, and family. The pressure to perform was on, and the hope to provide a successful attempt ran high."

" After doing my regular warm up of; 4 practice jumps each at 45, 48, and 50 inches. I raised the practice height to 52 inches at 2 repetitions, and repeated this again at 54 inches. I was now as ready as I could be, to attempt the 56 inch platform."

There is a big mental aspect to box jumps. As the height increases, so does the danger and potential for injury. The platform heights become increasingly intimidating from about 50 inches and on.

" In past attempts at different heights, i have put dents into my shin bones, split my leg wide open, nearly dislocated my hips, been knocked unconscious, and even lost layers of skin on my legs. The potential for slipping, or missing a solid landing, and falling is very high. If my footing on the landing isn't solid, or is misdirected often times this results in a legs overhead fall to the ground."

"I am not your average jumper. I have an interesting medical history, one in which has pushed me as a man to live life to its fullest. Aside from a bad snowboarding accident, that left me with double knee surgery to remove bone shards and fix torn ligaments, only 1.5 years prior to my world record attempt. Nearly 5 years ago you could find me lying in a bed at all hours of the day and night, in a hot attic room in Lisbon Portugal, near paralyzed.

When I was 8 years old I flipped over the handle bars of my bicycle and landed face first on a sewer drain. I shattered my teeth, and permanently damaged my neck and back.

Fast forward 17 years to that attic in Portugal, a sports injury caused my nervous system to stop communicating any thing other than pain. No doctors in the surrounding countries were successful in helping me to get better. I was sent back to the U.S., where the technology was great enough to make me mobile and near pain free again.

I vowed from that day on, I would never let opportunities pass me by but rather to live like I am dying.

I have never ran track, or done the high jump. My sports background is martial arts, and basketball. Often being the shortest on the team, speed and jumping ability was a must. It was fitness that not only brought stability to my body but also my life. Fitness has brought me to the point of this 56 inch standing box jump.

After a few unsuccessful attempts at correctly landing on the platform, I didn't want to give up and my past experiences pushed me to one final attempt.

"Moral of the story; never give up on your dreams, keep trying because that last attempt might just be the one you succeed at. I am proud that I have accomplished one of my dreams."

They jumped in front of 25 people with motion picture photographers capturing the occasion. The record was not considered official because it was not made in front of a public gathering.

This horse was a Thoroughbred born in Chile, and originally called "Faithful". He was a racehorse and retired from racing in 1944 to begin training in the Chilean Cavalry School. There he was taught dressage and jumping. His training was overseen by Chilean Cavalry Officer Major RAFAEL MONTTI, who was in charge of several other horses at the time and hoped to train one that could beat the current world record, set by Captain Antonio Gutierrez of the Italian Cavalry on an Irish horse named Osoppo.World Record horse Jump:

    World's Longest Nougat

    World's Longest Nougat

Agrigento, Sicily – On Sunday, 6 February, in the heart of the Valley of Temples in Agrigento, Sicily, more than 200 chefs set about preparing a traditional torrone (nougat) recipe in an attempt to create the World’s Longest Nougat. The record attempt was organised by Giovanni Parisi and the team of chefs was led by Salvatore Gambuzza, head chef at the famous Villa Athena Hotel that stands opposite the Valley of Temples. The event was taking place as part of the annual festival in Agrigento and all the community had joined forces to create what they hoped would be a record-breaking piece of nougat. Guinness World Records adjudicator Justine Bourdariat had travelled all the way to Sicily to certify this very special event.

It was a long night for all the chefs as they prepared the ingredients to create the giant nougat. They used over 1,000 kg sugar and more than 1,500 kg of almonds in their attempt to beat the existing world record of 408.61 m. The nougat was displayed on a very long table set up between two legendary temples – leading all the way to the Temple of Concordia. World's Longest Nougat

By 14:00 p.m. that day, the nougat was almost finished. Journalists and passers-by gathered around the chefs to see the final 60 m of the nougat being prepared. The spectators beamed with excitement as they encouraged the cooks in the last few moments before the official certification. Then the final measurement was announced: the nougat was 660 m long! The organizers and chefs had officially achieved a new Guinness World Record for the World’s Longest Nougat. The crowd celebrated this fantastic achievement… by eating the whole nougat in less than 15 minutes!
