World's Longest Nougat

Agrigento, Sicily – On Sunday, 6 February, in the heart of the Valley of Temples in Agrigento, Sicily, more than 200 chefs set about preparing a traditional torrone (nougat) recipe in an attempt to create the World’s Longest Nougat. The record attempt was organised by Giovanni Parisi and the team of chefs was led by Salvatore Gambuzza, head chef at the famous Villa Athena Hotel that stands opposite the Valley of Temples. The event was taking place as part of the annual festival in Agrigento and all the community had joined forces to create what they hoped would be a record-breaking piece of nougat. Guinness World Records adjudicator Justine Bourdariat had travelled all the way to Sicily to certify this very special event.

It was a long night for all the chefs as they prepared the ingredients to create the giant nougat. They used over 1,000 kg sugar and more than 1,500 kg of almonds in their attempt to beat the existing world record of 408.61 m. The nougat was displayed on a very long table set up between two legendary temples – leading all the way to the Temple of Concordia. World's Longest Nougat

By 14:00 p.m. that day, the nougat was almost finished. Journalists and passers-by gathered around the chefs to see the final 60 m of the nougat being prepared. The spectators beamed with excitement as they encouraged the cooks in the last few moments before the official certification. Then the final measurement was announced: the nougat was 660 m long! The organizers and chefs had officially achieved a new Guinness World Record for the World’s Longest Nougat. The crowd celebrated this fantastic achievement… by eating the whole nougat in less than 15 minutes!
